Carry On

And the verdict on Carry On:
I like it, but I don't <i>love</i> it. It's definitely grown on me a lot, but Euphoria Morning didn't <i>need</i> to grow on me, I loved that right from the first listen.
I like all the songs except She'll Never Be Your Man and the two bonus tracks. I love the Bond theme; the best since Live And Let Die. Other than that, Arms Around Your Love is the song that has grown on me the most, and Poison Eye was my first favourite. Silence The Voices I like even more now I've heard it live.
Speaking of the live show, well he's still got it hasn't he? His voice is much more consistent than in the old days, and he can hit most if not all of the high notes.
I can live without the Audioslave songs of course, and it's kind of weird seeing them do Soundgarden songs. Personally I'd prefer to see them focus more on his solo work, with just a little history thrown in.
My favourite part of the show, with no disrespect to the other musicians, is when it's just Chris and his guitar. Two hours of that would make my ears very happy.

If I can get my facts/memories straight

I got into Soundgarden in 1994 when I bought the The Day I Tried To Live single after having seen Hunger Strike on TV and wondering who the fantastic singer was that was hanging around with Pearl Jam. Then I had to wait till payday till I could afford to go back and buy the whole album. Then it was Pearl Jam who?
Loved Euphoria Morning, and through that discovered the wonderful band Eleven (thanks Chris!). My other other favourite band is The Black Crowes, and that's where the screen name came from.
I'm afraid I never got into Audioslave. I wanted to, I liked RATM and I loved the Civilian demos, but the final version of the album left me cold - the production, the vocal effects, the reworked guitar solos - something had gone wrong. I enjoyed the live show though.
I thought maybe they'd learn lessons and the second album would be better. But I didn't like that one either (except Doesn't Remind Me, which I love), and the third one did nothing for me either - I don't think I can even name you a single song.
So yeah, not an Audioslave fan, but I try not to go on about it too much.
I'm trying not to get too excited about the new solo work, I don't want to set myself up for more disappointment. At the end of the day though, the man has still got the best voice in the world, and I'll always have my SG albums, TOTD and EM.
